AI-Fadhikh Mosque or Al- Shams Mosque

Ibn Shibah quoted Jaber ibn Abdullah as saying, "When the Prophet surrounded Banu AI-Nadeer Jews, he built his tent near this mosque and prayed at it for six nights.


Abu Ayoub AI-Ansari and a number of the Prophet's companions were drinking a brand of liquor called AI-Fadhikh and at that time liquor was prohibited by the Qur'an.

They spilt their liquor inside the mosque and since then it has obtained its present
name.

It is also called AI-Shams (Sun) Mosque because it is built on a high place and it gets the sunrays before other nearlly buildings.

Location

It is to the east of Qoba Mosque and also to the east of AI-Awali village.

Construction

According to AI-Matari, the mosque was built on the same pattern of Qoba Mosque.

It had 16 columns but was ruined with the passage of time. It was rebuilt by Omar ibn Abdul Aziz.

Its length is 19 meters and width four meters and has five domes and a niche.
